Change Harbour was formed in 2011 as an independent management consultancy firm servicing the legal and broader professional services sector.  Change Harbour specialise in technology strategy and implementation, business process analysis, change management and organisational design and project management for the legal sector.

All Change Harbour consultants combine extensive experience of both the domestic and international legal sector (combined over 70 years) with broader experience gained from working in alternative industries.  Our clients range the largest international firms to domestic partnerships based in single jurisdictions across Europe, Asia, Africa and the US.

Simon Thompson

Simon is a Director of Change Harbour. He utilises his extensive experience in leading edge law firm management, enabling firms to implement innovative solutions to deliver operational effectiveness and support revenue growth. Simon’s main areas of focus include organisational design, process improvement and the alignment of firm-wide systems and structures with business strategy. This involves business and legal management systems across all functions. Simon has particular experience in integrating systems and structures following law firm mergers, to optimise efficiencies and align them with the strategy of the combined firm.

Prior to becoming a consultant in 2011, Simon joined Linklaters LLP in 1994, becoming Director of ISS in 2001. Simon developed Linklaters’ information systems technology, organisation and governance strategy, leading to the true globalisation of IT services across the firm.
Between 2001 and 2003 Simon led a global/firm-wide implementation of SAP (‘Programme Armstrong’) encompassing finance, practice management, client relationship management and human resources. This was the first full implementation of SAP within the legal industry.
In April 2007, he was appointed Global Chief Operating Officer, responsible for leading all of Linklaters’ Business Services worldwide. As a member of the firm’s executive committee, Simon was responsible for setting Business Services’ strategy and coordinating all of its activities (HR, Finance, IT, Knowledge Management, Risk, Marketing, Strategy, Operations), therefore playing a major role in ensuring that Linklaters’ firm-wide strategy was successfully implemented. As Global COO, Simon initiated an ongoing program of change aimed at achieving globalisation of services, increased innovation, greater cost effectiveness and improved quality.

Tim Hanson

Tim is a Director of Change Harbour. He has been involved with innovation and change projects within the legal industry since 1997. His particular expertise lies in the exploitation of process, technology, and sourcing to help lawyers execute their work more effectively. This has included developing LPM programmes for international firms, lawyer/client process improvement programmes, creating and managing numerous change portfolios to meet strategic objectives, and delivering business facing change projects covering matter management, risk and compliance, KM, productivity and collaboration.

Prior to joining Change Harbour, Tim spent fourteen years with Linklaters where he was responsible for managing the delivery of the business consulting service for the global practice; helping lawyers to execute matters more effectively though the application of strategic sourcing strategies; aligning the IT strategy to the strategic drivers of the firm; developing and exploiting the investment in SAP to manage business process; and delivering a consulting service to the firm’s major clients.

Tony Bland

Tony uses his knowledge and experience of law firm technology and industry IT architectures to enable firms to implement new solutions delivering enhancements in functionality and improvements to operational efficiency.  Tony has particular expertise in identifying and implementing appropriate infrastructure, application and desktop strategies and is a recognised leading expert in the implementation and exploitation of cloud computing architectures including IaaS, PaaS and DaaS.

Previously a senior IT manager at Linklaters LLP, Tony’s career in Legal has spanned 15 years over which time he has delivered projects for firms including Milbank Tweed, Holman Fenwick Willan and SJ Berwin.

Tony has been responsible for delivering major IT projects including:

  • Design and development of a knowledge management system for Deutsche Post Legal department
  • Implementation of a global virtual desktop at a major law firm
  • Development and implementation of Linklaters integrated, role-based Microsoft SharePoint collaboration platform
  • Procurement and implementation of large local authority management system

Before entering the legal IT market, Tony held several positions within the IT industry at UK manufacturer Group Bull and outsourcing company Integris.

Daniel Bright

Dan has a passion for business innovation and driving change: seeing business challenges and delivering practical, commercial solutions that work in reality and make a difference to business. He has led strategic projects and teams at a senior level in global organisations, including Linklaters and Andersen, specialising in strategic business development, marketing and change management. Dan bridges the gap between strategic and commercial expertise and the needs of businesses; translating the importance of CRM and business development to the day to day working of the individual and teams. Highlights include:

  • Leading the successful implementation and optimisation of a global client relationship management solution at Linklaters.
  • Introduction and delivery of global client review and feedback programmes at Linklaters, McGrigors and Andersen.
  • Conceiving and managing the UK-wide ‘reverse mentoring’ programme for Andersen partners.
  • Running internal workshops to train consultants and sales teams to develop market driven consultative sales techniques.
  • Developing client account programmes at Andersen, McGrigors and Linklaters and working with Lead Partners to manage global clients. Grew one client’s annual revenue from £5m to £15m in 17 months. Considered one of best client account leaders by partners.

Catherine Thompson

Catherine is a talented and successful business analyst and project manager.  With over fifteen years’ experience in the legal sector, Catherine has led a number of significant change projects including the implementation of global content management strategies, knowledge management solutions and post-merger systems integrations.

Catherine has particular expertise in the technologies and business processes supporting e-discovery having managed the litigation technology support function for a leading global law firm.
